Diary Of A Wimpy Teen ~ Chapter Nineteen ~

Hello guys! :) I know Christmas was yesterday, but the joy of Christmas is still in the air. In Malaysia, Christmas might only be a one-day-celebration, but in USA or anywhere that snows, Christmas has only just begun. Gosh, I wish Malaysia had snow, lots and lots of snow. Then we could make snowmen, ride sleighs, collect snowflakes, roll in the snow, have scarves wrapped warmly around our necks to our noses, feel the cold biting on our skin, watch a single drop of snow melt on our fingertips, knock on strangers' doors and sing them Christmas carols, huddle round the fireplace and sip hot chocolate from our mugs.
*    *    *        *    *    *        *    *    *
Something has waken me from the snow reverie...something trickling down my neck, like a string of beads - perspiration. Sweat, or whatever you like to call it. One minute I'm stuck in a winter wonderland, the next thing I know I'm sweating like a turkey stuck in the oven - the irony! = =

Yesterday, about ten in the morning, my family and I went to church for the BIG Christmas celebration, which in the end, turned out to be not that BIG. I promised Mary that I would wear a dress, and so I did. There were quite many attempts to take the perfect shot of both of us in dresses, but in the end we gave up. None of them looked good, or should I say we looked good in none of them. sigh* =_= But we did manage to look OK in one, neither particularly pretty nor supremely hideous. XP

Well yes, Santa has given me a swollen eye for Christmas, thanks a lot. =x= At least there were other things to be happy about on Christmas, like...PRESENTS!? Mary's presents for me: a floral skirt from Brands Outlet, a novel titled 'Pegasus', and a Hokkaido cake. :3 She baked it herself, it was unlike the ones I had tried, but still it was worth a thousand kisses.  XOXO

After church, dad took us to grandma's place to have lunch with her. Grandma prepared all the food herself, said she wanted to make it an extra special Christmas lunch. And it was extra special indeed. Popiah the appetizer, Mee Suah in herbal chicken soup and fish porridge our main course, and as for dessert, Tong Yuen with peanut fillings. =w= I know it's not the average Christmas meal we've always watched on TV since we were kids, where a family gathers around a long table and says grace before settling on the giant stuffed turkey and Yorkshire pudding. No turkey for us. :( At first, I was quite disappointed, 'cause grandma said it was gonna be EXTRA SPECIAL... But as it turned out, grandma's cooking was not such a let-down after all. The Popiah was so delicious I had to have a third helping, and the Tong Yuen literally melted on the tip of my tongue. > <  Grannie, you're an amazing cook! :D

We went out again in the evening because my parents had booked the tickets for our church's Christmas Musical Night. Almost everyone from my youth fellowship was there, all beautifully dressed for the night. The guys were all tuxedos and ties, most of the girls were adorned in white lace. They were all dolled up for the Christmas musical tonight. Oh, I forgot to mention that, didn't I? Well, it must've slipped my mind since I wasn't part of the musical. A lot of people were, even Mary. I don't know why I wasn't, it actually feels kind of bad to think that you're the only one left out of such a huge event. Oh well, maybe I wasn't needed in any way, as always. :'(

Dinner practically bordered on OK; just the typical Malaysian Mamak food. It's a good thing most people came for the musical, not for the food. I barely ate a thing, that's for sure. I just stuffed a few spoonfuls of food into my mouth before running off to meet Mary at the grand ballroom. She got this heavy make-up on her face - mascara, eyeliner, pink lip-gloss, and lots of powder. I could tell, by just one look, it was done by a professional make-up artist. And someone did her hair, too. It was curled up in pretty little waves, and they were in some sort of burgundy brown. Gosh, I hope someone would do my make-up, too. Not that I need it. I just wanna be pretty for once in my life, is it too much to ask!? SIGH* =0= Don't worry, I'll get over it...somehow.

Back to the story: After an hour of bitter waiting, the musical finally began. The show kicked start with an 'Oppa Gangnam Style' parody, where 'The Mob' made their first appearance. Mary was part of 'The Mob', but I could hardly see her; I bet anyone could. Poor Mary...sigh* After 'The Mob' left the stage, the main characters of the musical finally came out. To summarize everything, the musical mainly revolves around a 2055's family that consists of a grandmother, a mother, a daughter, a son and a robot named Max. LOL* The family lives in the midst of the technologically advanced; in a world where husbands are purchased and love is sold for an exorbitant price, where everything's systematically done and planned for you. Because life has become too perfect for them, they've lost sight of what's really important - love.

This musical has successfully conveyed a message so powerful that I believe more than a hundred hearts were touched last night. A message, reminding us that there's nothing more important than love, that love first came down from the heavens 2000 years ago in the form of a baby boy named Jesus.

In a nutshell, the musical was undeniably spectacular; with its touching moments, crazy antics, and breathtaking vocals. It was like watching a Christmas musical on Broadway, no kidding. I was so tempted to record the entire performance, but cameras were strictly forbidden in the ballroom. What a shame, huh!? :/ I really do hope there'll be another musical next year, a bigger and bolder one, perhaps. A year minus a day, counting from now. :P
